A necklace with a yellow diamond weighing 36.44 carats will be the star of the upcoming online jewelry sale at Christie’s, carrying an estimate of up to GBP 400,000 ($500,000).

The pear brilliant-cut, fancy-yellow, internally flawless diamond pendant, created in the 1980s, is detachable from its diamond-encrusted chain. The piece comes with an additional necklace in which the pendant can be mounted, Christie’s said last week. The auction, called Jewels Online: The London Edit, will run from June 2 to 15.

Other highlights of the auction include a set comprising a necklace with a 53.74-carat Colombian emerald and earrings with a combined weight of 67.73 carats of Colombian emeralds. The two pieces, which are surrounded by diamonds, have an upper estimate of GBP 200,000 ($250,000).

A necklace by Van Cleef & Arpels containing a diamond butterfly that detaches and can be worn as a brooch is expected to fetch GBP 120,000 to GBP 180,000 ($150,000 to $225,000).

A trio of diamond-encrusted tiaras will also be on offer. The first, a double bandeau-style headpiece created by Boucheron in 1910, has an upper estimate of GBP 150,000 ($187,000). Meanwhile, a diamond aigrette from around 1900 with fittings to convert it into a hatpin could realize up to GBP 35,000 ($44,000) and a diamond and cultured pearl tiara dated to 1900 carries a price range of GBP 8,000 to GBP 12,000 ($10,000 to $15,000).

A blue diamond ring was the top seller at the most recent jewelry sale at Christie’s in Hong Kong, fetching HKD 68.9 million ($8.8 million).

The piece, which features a pear brilliant-cut, 4.83-carat, fancy-vivid-blue, internally flawless, type IIb diamond surrounded by fancy-cut diamonds, fell within its estimate at the May 27 Magnificent Jewels sale. It was one of several colored jewels to take the spotlight.

In total, the auction brought in HKD 467.1 million ($59.6 million).

Here are the rest of the top 10 items at the auction:

This ring, containing an octagonal step-cut, 21.38-carat, royal blue Kashmir sapphire flanked by tapered baguette-cut diamonds, went for HKD 35.5 million ($4.5 million). That amount is nearly double its HKD 18 million ($2.3 million) high estimate.

This ring is set with a diamond known as The Golden Flame, a pear modified brilliant-cut, 8.92-carat, fancy-vivid-yellow-orange, internally flawless stone, nestled between two pear brilliant-cut, D-color, flawless diamonds weighing 1.12 and 1.11 carats. It sold for HKD 31.8 million ($4.1 million), above its upper presale price.

Christie’s sold this jadeite bangle for HKD 24.6 million ($3.1 million) at the Hong Kong auction, within its presale estimate.

A pair of pear brilliant-cut, D-flawless diamond earrings weighing 15.73 and 15.23 carats fetched HKD 24.6 million ($3.1 million) at the sale, within its original price range.

This necklace, featuring emerald beads and variously cut diamonds, was created in 2016 by Van Cleef & Arpels. It beat its HKD 8 million ($1 million) high estimate to bring in HKD 14.3 million ($1.8 million).

Another Van Cleef & Arpels necklace, this one mystery-set with rubies and round and pear-shaped diamonds, also surpassed its upper price. It went for HKD 11.5 million ($1.5 million) against a presale high estimate of HKD 9.5 million ($1.2 million).

Earrings bearing cushion-cut, royal blue Kashmir sapphires weighing 7.75 and 6.27 carats went under the hammer at the Hong Kong auction. The pair, which also contains shield-shaped and marquise-cut diamonds, achieved HKD 10.7 million ($1.4 million), within its estimate.

It was the lead item in the Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels sale, which realized $85.4 million — Sotheby’s highest total for that auction in five years.

A Harry Winston necklace from the collection of a princess brought in $1.1 million. The price for the piece, which is set with an oval, 37.92-carat Padparadscha sapphire, surpassed its high estimate.
This marquise-shaped, 15.05-carat, D-color, VVS1-clarity diamond ring sold for $1.1 million, more than three times its upper price.

A controversial three-part sale of jewelry belonging to late Austrian billionaire Heidi Horten achieved $202.2 million at Christie’s in Geneva, breaking the world auction record for a single collection.

The first portion of the auction, which took place live on May 8, contained 96 items and garnered $155.6 million, Christie’s said on Monday. The auction house sold 97% of items on offer at the event. The 152 lots in part two’s live auction on May 10 brought in a total of $42.4 million, with 99% of those goods finding buyers.

The final portion of the sale, which was held online from May 3 to May 15, fetched $4.2 million. Some 96% of the 154 items were purchased, Christie’s noted. Overall, the hammer dropped on 98% of goods on offer.

Christie’s faced backlash over the sale of Horten’s jewelry due to her husband’s ties to Nazi Germany. The World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) wrote a letter to the auction house opposing the sale and requesting that if it were to move forward, a major portion of the proceeds would be donated to charities supporting the welfare of Holocaust survivors, as well as commemoration and education.

Christie’s said it would donate a “significant portion” of its commission to Holocaust-related charities. However, all of the Heidi Horten estate’s proceeds from the auction are designated to benefit a foundation supporting medical research, child welfare, and access to the arts, in accordance with her wishes, the auction house said.

Here are the top sellers from the three portions of the auction:

Part I:

The Sunrise Ruby, a ring containing a cushion-shaped brilliant-cut, 25.59-carat ruby and diamonds by Cartier, fetched CHF 13.1 million ($14.6 million), missing its low estimate.

A Bulgari ring set with an emerald-cut, 6.99-carat, fancy-intense-pink, VVS1-clarity diamond brought in CHF 9.1 million ($10.2 million), more than double its upper presale price.

A necklace by Harry Winston featuring three strands of graduated natural pearls and a cushion-modified brilliant-cut, 11.15-carat, fancy-light-pink diamond went for CHF 6.5 million ($7.2 million), just over its bottom estimate.

Part II:

The Star of Africa, a necklace by Harry Winston bearing a pear-shaped, 54.95-carat ruby and pear, oval-shaped and round diamonds, garnered CHF 2.7 million ($3 million), nearly twice its upper price.

A necklace with a heart-modified brilliant-cut, 15.05-carat, fancy-orange-pink, VVS1-clarity diamond brought in CHF 2.5 million ($2.8 million), exceeding its upper estimate.

An emerald-cut, 47.58-carat, G-color, VS1-clarity diamond ring sold for CHF 1.9 million ($2.1 million), within its presale price range.

Part III:

A watch by Piaget made with white gold and diamonds went for CHF 138,600 ($155,309), well above its CHF 38,000 ($42,579) high estimate.
